Dr Manning is a local boy. He graduated High School at St Francis Xaviers College, attended The University of Newcastle, where he won a Newcastle University undergraduate scholarship, and graduated with Honours.

Dr Manning undertook internship and residency in the Hunter New England Area Health Service before commencing specialist eye training. Dr Manning’s Eye Training commenced in Orange at the Orange Eye Centre, then continued formally at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne.

Fellowship training followed,  both at The Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester England.

Dr Manning was awarded fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology in 2006 and has worked as consultant Eye Surgeon since, initially working in Manchester, then Melbourne, before finally returning home to Newcastle in 2007, when he took over the reins of Hunter Cataract & Eye Centre.

Dr Manning is an active member of RANZCO, ANZGS (Australian and New Zealand Glaucoma Society), and AUSCRS (Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons). He is also a member of the AMA.
Dr Manning regularly presents at local and interstate meetings, and is actively involved in educating and training medical students, registrars, and optometrists. He has also been involved in large multi-centre trials, investigating the best approaches to treating glaucoma, as well as evaluating novel glaucoma devices.

Dr Manning was appointed as a VMO with Hunter New England Health in 2007, and continues to provide services in both the public and private sectors. Dr manning is also the NSW representative on the ANZGS committee.
